What’s the difference between PVA and PVB

What’s PVA? Are PVA and PVB the same? Let’s find the answer together!

PVA(Polyvinyl alcohol) is a kind of white powder, whose physical properties are affected by chemical structure, alcoholysis degree and degree of polymerization, determines used as different glue, such as emulsifying stabilizer, water-soluble adhesives and starch adhesive. Besides glue, PVA is also used in widely application as follows,

A. Protective colloidin Polyvinyl acetate or EVA emulsion manufact

B. Paper industry, surface coating as surface adhesive, paper tube or cardboardagent and paper internal glue.

C. Textile industry, warp sizing agent for sizing engineering of weaving preparation, stiffening and thickening agent for finishing and processing, as positioning agent between processing cloth and machine in manufacturing vinnie fiber and plate printing engineering.

PVB is the short name of Polyvinyl Butyral, it’s a multifunctional resin synthesized by the chemical reaction of polyvinyl alcohol butanal. The main use application includes manufacture of laminated glass, coatings and adhesives. PVB has good adhesive property in glass, metal, plastic, wood, leather, etc. Extremely high transparency and dispersity of pigments make PVB widely used in automobile and building glass intermediate film, paint and ink.

PVA is the raw material of PVB, PVB is obtained by the reaction of polyvinyl alcohol with butanal. Different chemical properties determine different uses.
